House forms biotech caucus
Congress is facing an increasing number of legislative decisions relating to products produced through biotechnology, such as labeling of biotech foods.
These decisions have important implications not only for production and marketing but for international trade as well. Confusion controversy and a significant amount of misinformation cloud the issues. In response Rep. Cal Dooley D-CA organized the House Biotech Caucus to provide sound scientific and academic information on all aspects of biotechnology to legislators and their staffs and to alert Caucus members to legislative or regulatory activities that may affect biotechnology. The 65 Representatives who initially made up the Caucus are a bipartisan group that comes from diverse demographic and geographic regions.
The NFPA hailed the formation of the Caucus and pledged to share the scientific expertise of its three laboratories and more than 70 scientists.
