Web Plus: Capsule reviews
A variety of distinctive glass wine bot-tles are featured at www.winebottle.com, the site of Wine Bottle & Packaging (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada).
The site also showcases polyethylene terephthalate bottles for water and beer applications as well as glass food jars. One of the best parts of the site is a glossary including more than 40 glass bottle manufacturing-related terms that should be required reading for glass buyers.
Buyers of flexible packaging materials may want to check out the site of Dunsirn Industries (Neenah WI) at www.dunsirn.com. The site features two on-line packaging calculators--one for computing the length of a roll of packaging film given the roll and core diameter and the film thickness. Another calculator computes the weight of a finished roll of packaging film given the roll and core diameters plus the roll width and material density. Both calculators work with either metric or English measures. What makes these calculators especially useful is that they can be used by any packager for any flexible material regardless of whether Dunsirn converts your packaging film--a generous contribution to the packaging public.
At the site of Universal Labeling Systems (St. Petersburg FL) located at www.universal1.com, an easy-to-understand "product matrix" lists the firm's products by application and level of automation. Listed inside the matrix are specific model numbers that are all live links to specific screens dedicated to each product. It's a fast and easy way to select the appropriate product for a given application.
Another site that's easy on the eyes--or brain rather--is that of Heat and Control (Hayward CA) at www.heatandcontrol.com. On the site of this supplier of combination weighers and checkweighers there are mercifully few buttons to press ("Home Our story Products Contact us") making it extremely easy to find what you're looking for. The products section is broken down into packaging and food processing with ample use of photos and text.
