Differences in OCR and OCV Technologies

Machine Vision is a powerful tool for controlling quality during the packaging process. With applications including verifying label information, barcode and data matrix reading, label alignment, checking safety seals, fill levels and almost an unlimited number of other applications. In this paper we will be discussing how vision systems can assist with verifying the accuracy of labels and other printed characters. The tools we will be looking at are Optical Character Recognition, (OCR) and Optical Character Verification (OCV). While these terms are similar, from a Machine Vision point of view there are major differences between the tools. It is important to understand these differences so you can select the tool that will work best for your application.
