Contract packager fills PEN bottles with personal care products for Wal-Mart

At contract packager Lake Consumer Products, polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) bottles from Graham Packaging are conveyed single-file in pucks from left to right through a two-station volumetric filling process for feminine personal care products on Lake's line that relies almost exclusively on Terco equipment.

At the first station, about half of the feminine hygiene liquid gel is dispensed into the bottle. The second head dispenses the remaining Beyond Fresh Intimates product before the container is purged with carbon dioxide to remove oxygen in the headspace. A manually positioned valve assembly is automatically crimped onto the neck of the container.

Afterwards, another Terco unit fills reactant through the valve into the container. The reactant acts with the liquid gel product to create a propellant in the container. When the consumer pushes a press tab actuator on the container's dispensing cap, the feminine hygiene product comes out as foam. Seaquist Perfect dispensing supplies injection-molded polypropylene closure is manually pressed down over the valve onto the bottle. At the end of this video clip, an overcap applicator presses down the oriented cap onto the bottle.
