Climbing the ladder of f/f/s technology (sidebar)
More complex structures, too
Just as Calhoun Bend Mill has upgraded its vf/f/s machines for packaging it also has worked to improve its packages and graphics. In the weeks before talking with Packaging World the company shifted its materials purchases to Delmark (DePere WI).
Delmark supplies an adhesive lamination of 48-ga polyester/3-mil low-density polyethylene that it prints flexo in six colors. Calhoun continues its traditional gingham package design in red for grocery aisle products and in blue for the Orchard Mills products that are sold in retailers’ produce departments. The company’s logo incorporates a stylized line drawing of an old Southern mill as an art device with a similarly stylized drawing of Uncle Lee a Calhoun family entrepreneur to evoke the taste of rural down-home “Southern goodness.”
