The folks at Bone Appetit, maker of gourmet pet treats, have revised their thinking about foam peanuts as void fill. They now prefer Sylvacurl, recyclable, biodegradable and reusable wood shavings from Eastview Enterprises (East Hardwick, VT).

Edgeco's (Little Ferry, NJ) new Honeycomb Separator Panel can support 300 to 2ꯠ lb without crushing due to its unique cell structure. The 4-lb, 40" x 48" panel is said to be lighter than wood or plastic and to provide lower shipping costs while cushioning the product.
The Instapak® Molding Wheel from Sealed Air Corp. (Danbury, CT) produces just-in-time, custom-molded cushions at up to 6/min. For use with the manufacturer's SpeedyPacker(TM), which dispenses liquid foam into a bag for the molding process, the Instapak wheel holds six custom molds.
Under the trademark Mater-Bi, Novamont (Eschborn, Germany) currently produces four classes of biodegradable materials that can be processed with standard technologies such as injection molding, blow and cast film molding, as well as foamed sheets and cushioning for packaging.
Sealed Air (Saddle Brook, NJ) has introduced Stratocell(TM) Plus foam laminates. These combine Sealed Air's standard Stratocell laminated PE foams with either a 3.5-mil PE film or 1/8" high-density Cellu-Cushion® PE foam laminated to one side.
The surface of HoneyComb(TM) polymer film from Tredegar Film Products (Richmond, VA) has small hexagonal cells. The material's surface consists of a series of open cells, which allows for high transmission rates for gases, liquids or vapors, plus provides cushioning and separation.
Sealed Air (Saddle Brook, NJ) has introduced the Fill-Air(TM) inflatable packaging system for fast high-volume void-fill applications. The free-standing, mobile, 110-v unit produces 5 cu" of air-filled packaging material/min by injecting air into a special tubular film.
