Applications in harsh environments can now benefit from a microwave sensor in a pneumatic cylinder from Festo. Offering non-length-dependent displacement for pneumatic or hydraulic linear drives, sensor also provides facilities such as diagnostics, process monitoring, and plug & work.
Instead of using proximity sensors mounted in the cylinder barrel or externally, microwave sensor allows for integration into the end face of a pneumatic linear drive, where it continually measures piston position and speed across the entire cylinder stroke range. Continuous detection of status, position, and speed facilitates better monitoring of motion sequences, and thus more precise diagnostics and preventative maintenance.
