Matthews: Thermal inkjet printer

The new Viacode L-Series thermal inkjet printer from Matthews Marking Systems uses the same cartridge technology found in desktop printers, and provides high native print resolution (600 x 600 dpi) at speeds up to 200 ft./min. -- nearly twice the speed of previous thermal inkjet systems, according to the company.
A preprinted pharmaceutical carton showing the GS1-128 bar code (on right, with 20 digits) required by China’s PIATS program is printed by RSI printheads using HP’s TIJ (thermal ink-jet) 2.5 cartridge technology. HP’s TIJ 2.5 can print at resolutions up to 600 dpi. RSI optimizes bar-code resolution and print-cartridge life using patent-pending Variable DPI and nozzle-flipping features. Hailong incorporated RSI’s HP-based printers into its track-and-trace system for PIATS.
