Kal Kan launched eight 150-g (5.3-oz) varieties of Pedigree Little Champions wet dog food this spring in what appears to be the same foil-laminated pouch used for the company's Whiskas-brand cat food (see Packaging World, Aug. '99, p. 83, or packworld.com/go/whiskas). Little Champions sports an 18-month shelf life, and it carries Kal Kan's Flavor-Lock Pouch trademark.

General industrial and automotive: gold to North Pak Palmer Container (Twinsburg, OH) and Ashland Chemical for an F-style can and spout for insulation adhesives; silver to Richards Packaging and Bardahl for a bottle and closure for a custom designed bottle for automotive chemicals; bronze to TricorBraun and Senoret Chemical for a bottle and dispensing closure for a pesticide.
Packaging seen at the National Hardware Show ranged from consumer-friendly packaging for data comm products to innovative film cubes for potting soil. The softer side of hardware was seen in a trend toward products packaged for females and light do-it-yourselfers.
