Like other juice marketers, Welch’s has typically relied on heat-set polyethylene terephthalate when converting from glass to plastic. But the firm changed that pattern when it came time to design a plastic alternative to its 10-oz single-serve glass containers. This time, the Concord, MA-based firm opted for a translucent polypropylene bottle rather than clear PET.

In a radical departure from the long-standing 4x3-can-configured 12-pack, Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated, Charlotte, NC, last month began to ship a new 6x2-configured 12-pack. Called the Fridge Pack™, the new shape paperboard pack is ideal for refrigerator shelves and replaces the 4x3-can 12-pack for the company.
Since its redesign last year, sales for the Albers corn meal product line have increased considerably. The Nestlé USA company turned to Enterprise IG (San Francisco, CA) to revitalize the image Albers has cultivated since it introduced its product line in the 1920s.
Following on the heels of its recently launched Wizard Scented Oil plug-in air freshener, Wayne, NJ-based Reckitt Benckiser called on LAM Design Associates (Pleasantville, NY) to expand on its design and create a distinctive look for the entire line of “air care” products.
In 1957, Vitabath came out with its first bath and shower gel called Vitabath Gelée. Not much had changed until February when Vitabath released a new fragrance and a new look. Phoenix-based Belae Brands, the maker of Vitabath personal care products, unveiled a modern, upscale packaging design, featuring a contemporary new logo screen-printed directly to the bottle.
Hansen Beverage Co. entered the single-serve flavored water market in July with its Energy Water line sold in a 24-oz hot-filled polyethylene terephthalate bottle from Schmalbach-Lubeca (Manchester, MI).
Zoltan Payerli of Salinas, CA-based Fresh Express is looking forward to Pack Expo Las Vegas 2001, scheduled for Sept. 10-12 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center. His attendance there two years ago led to the installation of a 16-head combination scale from Yamato, which is represented by Hayssen, a Barry-Wehmiller Co. (Duncan, SC).
