Whether it’s for track-and-trace purposes or for brand protection, serialization is becoming an important packaging process, particularly in the pharmaceutical market. But what does serialization comprise? Is it a single unique code on a package? Or can it go beyond authentication to integrate with a brand owner’s business systems?

In this Podcast, Systech Intl. director of business development Bruce A. Harder explains to Packaging World senior editor Anne Marie Mohan how serialization needs to take into account the entire packaging process and protect the integrity of the unique codes from package unscrambling through to palletization.

Harder also encourages brand owners investing in new packaging lines or in upgraded packaging equipment to plan now for a future that may include serialization in order to reduce costs down the line.

At the show, Systech exhibited its Serialized Product Tracking (SPT) system, an application that enables item, case, and pallet serialization at the packaging line and site level. SPT is utilized to support track and trace, e-pedigree, product packaging authentication and other business use cases in the pharmaceutical industry.

Systech is exhibiting in booth S-1469.
