Baker employs a metal detection manager

Equipped with Lock’s DataChek software that helps keep a record of inspection data that can be attained remotely by an operator the inspection equipment ensures that all baked products are backed by reliable quality control and safety records.

With 640 products including fine baked goods cakes and pastries for distribution to restaurant and hotel chains Edelweiss needed a system that could offer flexibility and sensitivity.

“We weren’t using anything to inspect our product before” says Rifat Cebi general manager at Edelweiss. “Before we bought this system we really looked around. We found that there’s nothing out there that doesn’t break. Since we’ve had this machine we’ve had no problems whatsoever. The quality of the product is great. It’s one of the best purchases we’ve ever made.”

The Lock WeighChek checkweigher and MET 30+ metal detector are electronically integrated enabling operators to access settings and data for both units via the checkweigher’s control panel. The system is also networked to the bakery’s management information system making the machinery accessible from a remote PC or laptop. Validation and performance reports can be created allowing problems to be identified immediately.

The first unit purchased more than a year ago will soon be accompanied by another combination system that is currently on order. Installed at the end of a line the system will reject any product that is contaminated underweight or overweight via a pusher reject device. Each rejected item is pushed from the line onto a table where it is manually inspected by an Edelweiss operator.

“There’s more to inspection than buying the cheapest system on the market says Cebi. “Metal detection and checkweighing represent a long-term investment.”
