WD-40 blasts into wider coverage
Long used to having its namesake product fix squeaks in tight places, the WD-40 Co. also knows some things need a wide spray of the lubricant.

That’s why the San Diego CA-based maker of lubricants hand cleaners and household products introduced nationally in December the 18-oz Big Blast Can which covers wide areas fast. Suggested uses include the cutting deck of lawn mowers and the surfaces of shovels. “The Big Blast makes total coverage simple” says Rob Fleisher director of marketing. “We discovered consumers wanted to be able to distribute larger amounts of WD-40 more easily and the Big Blast meets that need.”
At 18 oz the three-color-offset-printed steel can from U. S. Can is 2 oz bigger than WD-40’s industrial version and 4 oz bigger than the usual can consumers see according to Fleisher. That’s because the Big Blast delivers nearly four times as much product per second than the standard WD-40 can via a two-piece spray dispenser from Seaquist Perfect Dispensing. The stock Sirena2® two-piece polypropylene sprayer fits atop the can’s standard 1’’-dia mounting cup. The contract packaging is by aerosol specialists I-K-I Manufacturing. Fleisher expects consumers to use the Big Blast to supplement not replace their normal WD-40 can. “The early response from retailers and consumers is promising” he says. Big Blast is available for $3.99 at automotive farm marine home improvement centers and hardware outlets such as Ace Hardware. —RL
