3-L PET jugs with auto-attached PP handles

Langer Juice Co., Inc., City of Industry, CA, is marketing juices in 3-L, hot-filled PET jugs specially developed by Plastic Engineering Technologies (407/808-9825 or 909/390-1323), Ontario, CA.

Uniquely, the bottles incorporate olypropylene handles that are inserted into the mold, and the container is stretch-blown around it.

Plastic Engineering Technologies has been working in conjunction with Langer Juice on developing the offset-necked PET bottles with automatically attached handles for more than a year. The empty containers weigh 105 g, and the PP handles weigh 20 g. The new lighter-weight, recyclable packaging is designed to increase Langer’s offerings of lightweight, eco-friendly bottles.

Langer vp Bruce Langer notes, “We are very excited about how environmentally friendly this package is. Not only is it 100% recyclable, but it is approximately 20% lighter in weight compared to the five 20-oz bottles that would hold the equivalent amount of juice.”

The juice jugs are hot-filled at 185º F, using filling equipment manufactured by KHS, Inc. (www.khs-inc.com).

Consistent with Langer Juice’s packaging sustainability efforts, the company minimizes label material usage and employs soy-based inks to print its labels and boxes.
