Biodegradable foodservice packaging is coming to a restaurant near you. Or at least it's starting to look that way, as EarthShell Corp. (Santa Barbara, CA), in conjunction with manufacturing partner Sweetheart Cup Co., nears completion of a commercial plant for the manufacture of its biodegradable composite material.
In March, Turners Falls, MA, film maker New England Extrusion opened a 34ꯠ sq' plant in Milton, WI. The plant includes two new extrusion/blown film manufacturing lines from Reifenho/oouser (Lawrence, MA).
Clearly Canadian and Warner-Lambert have teamed up in a joint sampling program to promote gum and sparkling water. Throughout the summer, three million 1-L polyethylene terephthalate bottles of Clearly Canadian's wild cherry-flavored sparkling water will have their necks adorned with a five-stick sample pack of cherry Trident gum from Morris Plains, NJ-based Warner-Lambert.
Two hot melts and one cold-glue adhesive are instrumental in allowing this Michigan miller to package more than a million cartons every day. Bundling and tray packing have been upgraded, too, and ink-jet printing of corrugated shippers is a big improvement.
